What was true before Jesus came is not necessarily true now; the cross changed everything. Because of what Jesus did, we can now receive our inheritance of righteousness, redemption, wisdom, and holiness. We no longer need to fear the curses, wrath, and punishment that were a commonplace in the Old Testament. Knowing how to rightly divide the difference between the old and the new keeps us from being confused by false religious doctrines. If we have been born again and made children of God, we must no longer live by the law or the prophets. Therefore, although the law is useful and we can learn from it, we are not to live under the law, but under grace.
